Polygraph has been successfully used by therapists and counselors to assist their clients restore reputations and mend broken relationships.  The use of polygraph has assisted in verifying truthfulness for issues that are relevant to the client and their loved ones.  Sometimes this may be to exonerate those who are wrongfully accused, or to reassure loved ones that the healing process is occurring in the manner stated by the client.

 

Polygraph is an unbiased scientific procedure that is proven to be accurate when administered in the prescribed manner by a skilled examiner.  Some areas of therapy in which polygraph can be used include:

 

1.   Drug and alcohol addiction - clients who are in the process of recovering from addiction can use the polygraph either one time, or regularly, to demonstrate their commitment to healing.

 

2.  Sexual addiction– as the recovery process occurs, loved ones can be reassured that the client is healing.  Fidelity tests are very common - it either ends the denial or, more hopefully, helps rebuild the trust of loved ones.

 

3.   Restoring broken marriages and relationships – any relationship, in which regaining trust and setting the record straight is a vital factor in the healing process, can benefit through the use of polygraph. Examples include “he said/she said” matters, and other issues in which the truth is unknown.

 

4.    Impaired professionals – professionals from all walks who are in the recovery process, who seek to re-establish their trustworthiness with those who place trust in them, can benefit through the use of polygraph.  Many professional boards and licensing authorities recognize polygraph as an unbiased scientific tool, and give credence to its results when determining the future of the client.

 

5.  Family issues – Financial matters, and allegations of sexual/physical abuse are some of the family issues that can be tested using the polygraph.  When allegations are made by a child, for example, whether true or false, trust within the family unit is placed in doubt.  Polygraph can be used to restore the reputation of those who are wrongfully accused and can help rebuild trust.
